First of all Enemy Territory Quake Wars Public Beta is about to start. Only a small number of keys will be available and most to File Planet Subscribers. For the rest you will need a File Planet account. You could probably get the keys from http://www.enemyterritory.com/
I read somewhere that the release date of the half life pack will be october, sometime before GTA4.
Also some stupid health company in America has decided that games are addictive, anyways I read it from here: http://games.internode.on.net/content.php?mode=news&id=1379
I bought a book a couple of weeks ago with the same name as the title to this post. 2 things to note. 1 the book code does not match the code on the cd. 2 I couldn’t get the source code to compile in Visual Studio 2005 using the instructions in the book. I googled around and found Tom Miller’s blog and then a link to zman’s site which had some updated code. So if you have this book then run around to http://www.thezbuffer.com and you can find the code in the downloads section. NOTE: That site has some adult advertisements, none seem to be hardcore.
A long time ago in a country far far away a small group of people created a company called Dynamix! These guys were awesome and made a few games I liked. I think the first game of theirs I played was Stella 7. It gave me nightmares
Anyways in 1994 they released EarthSiege. I never played it but I bet it was AWESOME. Not long after, (1995 or 1996 or 1997) EarthSiege 2 was released. It was the best game ever, awesome story, awesome fun, probably a bit simplistic now I think of it but I still loved it. I’ve spent hours and hours on that game and have finished it heaps of times. I love it.
Later on StarSiege was released, had some fancy graphics, and some odd controls and some things that didn’t make it feel as good as EarthSiege2 but it was still a lot of fun. That was the last of the good mech games. It was released in 1999. About 8 years ago. There have been 3 sequals but none of them are mech games, and none have a story line. They are Tribes, Tribes 2 and Tribes Vengeance.
About 3 years ago I stumbled upon Starsiege: 2845. This was to be a mod for Tribes Vengeance that was created by volunteers. Soon its status was upgraded to be its own game. Years later the project has closed. I don’t think much had been released, I can’t find any alpha test releases or anything. There is a lot of art around and there was a lot of information on the forums but they are gone too.
I don’t blame the guys that were working on the sequel, its good to see that there were a group of people who at least tried. Maybe one day someone will revive or recreate the sequel. That would be a good day.
Oh well, I can’t miss something I never had in the first place.
